Chelsea defender Maren Mjelde will leave the club at the end of this season.
Mjelde joined Chelsea in 2017 from Norwegian side Avaldsnes IL and has won every domestic honour available, including five Women’s Super League titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups.
The 34-year-old has, though, struggled with injuries over the past few seasons and has made seven or fewer WSL appearances in the last three campaigns. She has not featured in the league since December, with other players selected ahead of her.
“When I first came to Chelsea, I hadn’t won anything in my career,” Mjelde said. “I had so many silver medals from clubs and the national team. I think that was the one thing I was promised when signing for Chelsea: when you come here you’re going to win.
“In 2017, I won my first trophy. It was the Spring Series but still it was really cool. I hadn’t lifted a trophy before that, it has just been so many trophies since then.
“It’s more than I ever could have dreamed. It’s hard to just pick out moments because there have been so many trophies, but it’s the thing you never get tired of it.”
Maren has a message for you… 🥺
