Charlotte Purdue and Calli Hauger-Thackery have been selected by the British Olympic Association to represent Team GB in the marathon at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Charlotte Purdue and Calli Hauger-Thackery have earned their place in the women’s race after both running a time of 2:22:17 at separate marathons at the end of 2023. We’re very excited to watch both women race in Paris this summer.
Hauger-Thackery ran 2:22:17 in her marathon debut at the McKirdy Micro Marathon in Valley Cottage, New York. Her time was the third-fastest marathon debut by a European athlete after Sifan Hassan and Paula Radcliffe.
Purdue ran her 2:22:17 at the Berlin Marathon, taking her to second on the British all-time list behind only Paula Radcliffe. She now shares that second place with Hauger-Thackery.
In a post on her Instagram, Purdue said: “Honestly still can’t believe it. So much hard work has gone into this moment – 12 years ago I set myself the goal of making an Olympic team. From countless setbacks, injuries, illness’s and then bouncing back from the biggest disappointment of my career in 2021 – I can’t say that it’s been easy. But I can say that it’s been worth it.
