An ugly moment at Chicago’s United Center has gotten a rise out of Charles Barkley.
On Friday, Jan. 12, the Bulls welcomed back members of the 1995-96 championship team and enshrined them as part of the first class of the franchise’s Ring of Honor. During a halftime ceremony, Thelma Krause, the widow of former Bulls executive Jerry Krause, was met with boos as she represented her husband for his posthumous induction.
The moment put a stain on what should have been a special night for the franchise and many immediately took to social media to criticize the booing fans, whose actions brought a visibly shaken Krause to tears. With the NBA on TNT the following Monday, Barkley took a moment to address what happened during “Inside the NBA.”
“I want to be very careful here because Chicago, I love that city, but what happened in Chicago the other night was a disgrace,” Barkley began.
“Having his wife cry like that. That was wrong on so many levels. Michael (Jordan) and Scottie (Pippen) and Dennis (Rodman) not showing up — that was wrong. It was a complete disgrace to the legacy of the Chicago Bulls.”
“It was a complete disgrace to the legacy of the Chicago Bulls…That hurt my heart watching that thing.”
