Caroline Wozniacki has dismissed her father’s claims that she will be retiring again after this season but noted that more could be done to support mothers on the WTA Tour.
After former world No. 1 Wozniacki was not granted main draw wildcards into the Rome Open and the French Open, her father and coach Piotr unloaded on the two tournaments but also on the WTA. In his rant, Piotr Wozniacki ripped the WTA as “pathological” and slammed them over “operating in an amateur fashion.”
“Caroline is a perfect example to show everyone how pathological women’s tennis is. My daughter does not have a protected ranking because she had a long break, and that’s fine,” Piotr Wozniacki told sport.pl in late May.
“But isn’t it worth helping such a girl if she decided to come back? The WTA believes that it is operating in an amateur fashion in the largest professional women’s sport of all sports in the world. It turns out that when someone like Caroline Wozniacki comes back as Caroline Wozniacki and family, she is no longer welcome.”
In the same interview, Wozniacki’s father indicated that the 2018 Australian Open champion would be done with pro tennis after this season.
