Former world No 1 Caroline Wozniacki has been granted a main draw wildcard into a WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati, the tournament announced. Wozniacki, who announced a surprise to tennis last week, is set to return to action next month after being retired from the game since the 2020 Australian Open.
After being given wildcards for Montreal and the US Open, Wozniacki also added Cincinnati to her schedule. In 2005, a 15-year-old Wozniacki made her WTA debut in Cincinnati. 18 years later, Cincinnati will be one of her first comeback tournaments.
Wozniacki looking forward to playing in Cincinnati again
Wozniacki, who will be turning 33 on July 11th, is set to make her 12th appearance on the hard courts of Cincinnati. Wozniacki still perfectly remembers her Cincinnati debut as she is looking forward to returning to the tournament where her career basically started.
