WNBA star Candace Parker indicated she’s considering retirement in an interview with “Good Morning America” on Thursday, saying the decision will come down to whether or not she’s healthy. Here’s what you need to know:
- “If I’m healthy, I’m gonna play,” Parker, 37, said during an appearance to promote a new documentary about her life. “But I’m not gonna play in pain anymore. It’s too important — the trick-or-treating, the crossing over my kids, it’s too important. If I’m healthy I’m gonna play.”
- Parker, a free agent, missed the second half of the 2023 season — her first with the Las Vegas Aces — after undergoing surgery for a foot fracture in June.
- The two-time MVP said at the time of the procedure it was “the only option for me to be healthy again” and “I’ll work my way towards being healthy as soon as possible.”
Parker played key leadership role for Aces while sidelined
Although Parker’s season ended in early July, the 6-foot-4 forward remained important for the Aces during their most recent title run.
