Camille Herron has set a new six-day ultramarathon world record at Lululemon’s FURTHER ultra event.
American distance runner Camille Heron completed 220 laps over the course of the six-day ultra marathon, totalling 560.33 miles (901.7km) and beating Sandra Barwick’s previous record, unbeaten since 1990, by 11 miles.
Camille also managed to set 11 new women’s world bests for various times and distances, including smashing the women’s record for 400 miles by over 14 hours with 88:34:26, but the six-day record was undoubtedly the achievement she would have been hoping for.
The Lululemon FURTHER ultramarathon saw 10 female athletes attempt to run their furthest ever distance when provided with resources and product innovation usually reserved for men. Nine of the athletes achieved this feat, with the group running at total of 2880 miles between them.
As well as supporting the athletes to break new ground, Lululemon also used the event to conduct research with the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific on how to better support female athletes.
Alongside Camille Herron, the athletes who took part were Montana Farrah-Seaton, Stefanie Flippin, Kayla Jeter, Xiaomeng Jia, Yoon Young Kang, Vriko Kwok, Mirna Valerio, Devon Yanko and Leah Yingling.
