In the first-round clash between two past Canadian Open titlists in Montreal on Tuesday, Camila Giorgi got the better of Bianca Andreescu. The Italian, who won the title here in 2019, came through 6-3, 6-2 in an hour and 31 minutes against the home favourite.
Andreescu had won the title in 2021.Giorgi saved all five break points she faced while converting three break points on Andreescu’s serve. She also won 60% points on return on the latter’s second serve while winning 61% of her second-serve points.
Giorgi also lost only six points on her first serve behind 29 points that were played on it.The 31-year-old will take on seventh seed Petra Kvitova in the second round.
