Cam Fowler finding a fit with Blues after lean years in Anaheim recently: ‘I’m happy’

ST. LOUIS — When St. Louis Blues defenseman Cam Fowler landed at LAX on Christmas Eve and was hugged by his wife, Jasmine, and 2 1/2-year-old son, Charlie, he got a special request.

“My little guy was in his car seat and he was calling my name,” Fowler said. “He wanted me to sit in the backseat with him on the way home, so I did.”

It had been 16 days since Fowler had seen Charlie — the first five days when he was still with the Anaheim Ducks, who were on a road trip, and then another 11 days with the Blues, who traded for him on Dec. 14.

So on the 10-minute ride from the airport to their house in Newport Beach, Calif., “I just told him how much I missed him,” Fowler said. “He was pointing out all the planes in the air, the Christmas lights … when he gets excited, he just explains everything to you. He was all fired up!”

The three-day Christmas break earlier this week was welcomed by many Blues who traveled home for the holiday. But for the Fowlers, it was a chance to enjoy some family time, including dogs Beauford, a Bernedoodle, and Izzy, a Maltese Poodle.

“I’m very much a homebody, so just the comfort of my own home with the dogs, it was really nice,” Fowler said. “Christmas Day, my wife got me a chess set and she taught me how to play chess. So…
