Caitlin Clark has dominated the college basketball news cycle this season as the sharpshooting Iowa guard has racked up numerous records and drawn unprecedented crowds to her games.
The 6-foot senior from West Des Moines, Iowa, already broke the women’s NCAA Division I and major college women’s basketball scoring records this season. She’s on pace to pass Pete Maravich’s NCAA Division I men’s scoring record on Sunday, when No. 6 Iowa plays its final game of the regular season against No. 2 Ohio State (1 p.m. ET). With the average ticket price topping $500, the matchup marks the most expensive women’s basketball game, college or WNBA, on record, per data from secondary marketplace TickPick.
Clark is averaging 32.2 points and 8.7 assists per game — leading the nation in both categories — and needs 18 points to pass Maravich’s record of 3,667 points.
After guiding the Hawkeyes to the NCAA final last season (Iowa lost to LSU in the championship), she figures to help Iowa again this postseason before moving to the professional ranks. Clark announced on Feb. 29 that she is entering the 2024 WNBA Draft in April. The prospective top pick for the Indiana Fever, Clark’s professional debut is set to be among the most anticipated in league history.
