Caitlin Clark to the WNBA: The path to the pros for the Iowa record-setter was the only choice

As if she were accepting an Oscar on Academy Awards night – and who’s to say something in that realm is not another of her myriad talents? – Iowa superstar Caitlin Clark made sure to thank all the right people in announcing she was approaching the end of her college basketball career.

Teammates, coaches, fans, trainers and staff. The fans who filled Carver-Hawkeye Arena on so many occasions as her career progressed and also made her team’s road games such an occasion wherever the Hawkeyes traveled.

And “especially the young kids” she clearly inspired through her talent and flair and captivated by her artillery-distance 3-pointers and breathtaking passes.

She did not thank the media, but we will endure.

Here is what she was too diplomatic to say in the social media post that declared she will enter the WNBA Draft when the 2023-24 Iowa season is completed, ideally not until the Hawkeyes make their way to Cleveland for a second consecutive Final Four:
