IOWA CITY, Iowa — Kansas State twice rallied from a pair of six-point, fourth-quarter deficits to stun No. 2 Iowa 65-58 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. This is the second straight season the Wildcats upset the Hawkeyes.
Iowa led 58-53 with 2:40 left before the Wildcats shut down the Hawkeyes’ high-flying offense. Iowa missed its last seven shots and Kansas State closed with a 12-0 run.
The Hawkeyes connected on just 2 of 21 3-point attempts, well down from the 7.7 they averaged through three games. Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark sank both 3-point attempts but missed 14 others in the contest.
Clark, who entered the game averaging 32.0 points, finished with 24 on 9-of-32 shooting. She added with three rebounds, three assists and four turnovers.
Kansas State center Ayoka Lee was a mismatch inside, scoring 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting. She added 12 rebounds and despite two early fouls that kept her on the bench for most of the first quarter.
How Kansas State won
Lee’s performance was pivotal in the fourth quarter. She scored 10 points, including on consecutive trips to give the Wildcats the lead. But offensively, it was more than just Lee.
