When Iowa plays Michigan on Thursday, Caitlin Clark is expected to set the Division I women’s basketball scoring record.
It’s a safe assumption. Clark needs just seven points to tie Kelsey Plum’s record of 3,527 and eight to set the record. She averages 32.1 points per game, so Clark will likely break the record before the end of the first quarter.
However, while the NCAA will deem Clark as the official record holder, it will still come with a bit of an asterisk — and it’s not because of Pete Maravich, who holds the men’s NCAA Division I scoring record with 3,667 points. There’s another star women’s basketball player who has a legit claim on the scoring crown.
