Viewership for Caitlin Clark’s record-breaking performance on Sunday peaked at 4.42 million viewers on FOX, making it the most-watched women’s college basketball game in FOX Sports history.
The game averaged 3.39 million viewers, and is the most-watched regular season women’s college basketball game on any network since 1999.
That number obliterated the previous season high of 1.86 million viewers that tuned in for Iowa and Ohio State’s first matchup this season, which aired on NBC in January.
The game also ranks second among all college basketball games this season behind a Michigan State-Arizona game (5.18M) that had a direct lead-in from an NFL game. It topped the first Duke-UNC game this season, which brought in 3.2 million viewers.
It also was the most-watched game of the day, topping the Warriors-Celtics game on ABC, which brought in 3.01 million viewers. It’s also the sixth most-watched basketball game so far this season. Three of the games ahead of this one took place on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Clark needed just 18 points to become the all-time leading scorer in NCAA D-I history. She did that, and then some, in her final regular season game at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, finishing the regular season with 3,685 points.
