Caitlin Clark is women’s basketball’s brightest star.
JuJu Watkins has got next.
And in February, Clark found herself in Watkins’ shoes in a fascinating way.
The Hawkeyes were about to host the Trojans and Watkins, and associate head coach Jan Jensen recently shared the rest of the story with a local ABC station.
Clark reached out to Jensen and asked, “Hey, do you want me to practice?”
As the conversation continued, Clark insisted: “For real. I could be JuJu.”

Well that’s an offer you can’t turn down.
Jensen said Clark did her Watkins impression “pretty well” while also throwing in a few logo 3-pointers.
It apparently worked, too, because Iowa then went and beat USC 76-69 while holding Watkins to 8-for-22 from the floor.
Those superstars will likely share a floor themselves soon enough. Watkins should recover from her torn ACL in time to have a long and successful WNBA career.
It’s fun to picture Clark and Watkins on the same team, of course, trying to one-up each other with amazing shots.
But they could also go big play for big play back and forth if they were on opponents.
All told, women’s basketball is simply in a wonderful place with ambassadors for the game like Clark and Watkins.
