Everywhere Caitlin Clark goes, a crowd follows, sometimes too closely. That was no different in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday afternoon.
After No. 18 Ohio State upset No. 2 Iowa 100-92 in overtime, Clark collided with one of Ohio State’s record-breaking 18,660 fans in attendance at the Schottenstein Center as Buckeyes fans stormed the court to celebrate.
As the Iowa star was jogging off, a fan running onto the court crashed into her and sent Clark tumbling to the ground. She stayed down for some time appearing to be in pain as Iowa team members attended to her before she got up and went to the locker room.
Clark told reporters after the incident that she was uninjured but said she was “hammered by somebody trying to run on the court and blindsided.”
“Kind of scary, could’ve caused a pretty serious injury to me and knocked the wind out of me, but luckily my teammates kind of picked me up and got me off the court,” Clark said, before adding that it “comes with the territory.”
