Brighton Women part company with coach Jens Scheuer less than 10 weeks after appointment

Brighton & Hove Albion Women have mutually agreed to part company with head coach Jen Scheuer.

Scheuer, 44, was only appointed at Brighton in December, following Hope Powell’s exit from the Women’s Super League side after a poor start to the season.

But Brighton’s did not win in the WSL under Scheuer, although the German only presided over three league matches. In those, Brighton lost twice and drew once.

On the decision, Brighton technical director David Weir said: “Together with Jens, we’ve not reached this decision lightly and, while we appreciate he has given his all in the role, this feels like the right step forward for all parties involved.

“We would like to thank Jens for his efforts and, on behalf of everyone at the club, we wish him well for the future.”

Scheuer also took charge of three cup matches while at Brighton, beating West Ham United on penalties in the Conti Cup group stage, as well as picking up 7-0 and 5-0 wins over West Bromwich Albion and Coventry City in the FA Cup fifth and fourth rounds respectively.

Brighton are 11th in the WSL having won just twice in the league in 11 matches. They sit two points above bottom side Leicester City, with two games in hand over the East Midlands side.
