Lindenwood athletics announced today that the gymnastics program will be cut after the conclusion of the 2024 season. In 2022, the department transitioned from a Division II to a Division I institution, and it states that this cut is a result of an assessment of the department’s sustainability.
Nine other programs, nearly all Olympic sports, are also being cut.
The Lions are the reigning USAG national champions, a title they have won four times in their 10-year history. Nya Kraus (beam) and Kaylee Cooper (bars) are also reigning individual champions.
Lindenwood’s program originated during the 2013 season; the gymnastics team is part of the Midwest Independent Conference. The only other program to be cut recently, UIC, was also an MIC member. Lindenwood has won the MIC team title six times.
This is a developing story. We will update this post as more information becomes available.
