Clemson has officially parted ways with head gymnastics coach Amy Smith, the program’s inaugural leader, the school announced Friday.
Under Smith’s leadership, Clemson made an immediate impact on the collegiate gymnastics scene, debuting in January 2024 in front of more than 8,000 fans at Littlejohn Coliseum. The Tigers earned a top-20 national ranking after their first meet and went on to qualify for NCAA regionals in both seasons. In 2025, Clemson advanced through the play-in round for the first time in program history before falling in the second round of the Alabama Regional.
In a statement, Clemson said it “has initiated a national search for the program’s next head coach.”
Before taking the helm at Clemson, Smith was the head coach at Utah State, where she led the Aggies to multiple NCAA regional appearances and a conference title in 2022. She previously held assistant coaching roles at North Carolina, UCLA, Missouri, Florida, and Kentucky. As a gymnast, Smith was a two-time All-American at UCLA and helped the Bruins capture the 1997 national championship.
