Evans Chebet (2:05:54) pulled away with the 2023 Boston Marathon title, taking down Eliud Kipchoge and a stacked field to win the 127th running of the race. In the women’s race, Hellen Obiri won her Boston Marathon debut at 2:21:38. Here’s what you need to know:
- Chebet becomes the first man since Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot to defend his Boston crown. Cheruiyot won Boston in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

Rain didn’t slow down Chebet
Despite the rain in Boston, Chebet’s 2:05:54 is the fastest winning time since 2011 and the third-fastest time in course history. Chebet has now won three consecutive World Major Marathons, adding a New York City title in November between his Boston victories.
