Boris Becker has applauded Iga Swiatek for publicly speaking out against things she doesn’t like and demanding the WTA allow players to have a bigger voice in important decision-making. The most recent case of players being unhappy with the WTA came at this past WTA Finals.
In Cancun, the participants very openly complained that the court conditions were “poor” and also questioned WTA’s decision to pick Cancun as the host city when the place has tricky weather conditions at this part of the year.
Also, many weren’t happy at all that the WTA needed until September to announce the host city for the 2023 WTA Finals. “We feel like we’re beating our heads against the wall. Everything has already been decided without consulting us, and now we are looking for a solution how we can reach a compromise.
It would be nice if the WTA shared its plans with us before making decisions. It’s supposed to be an organization of women’s players, but we have nothing to say. It took us some time to gather into one group and take joint action,” Swiatek said at the WTA Finals.
Reacting to Swiatek’s comments, Becker wrote on his Instagram Story: “Good/strong words from the champion!”
