Bonmati, Kerr, Wiegman and Vilda nominated for UEFA Women’s awards for 2022-23

UEFA has announced Aitana Bonmati, Olga Carmona, and Sam Kerr as the three nominees for the 2022-23 Women’s player of the year award.

Bonmati and Carmona both played integral roles in Spain’s Women’s World Cup winning side, with the latter scoring the winning goal in the final against England last weekend.

Carmona’s tournament-winning goal was made all the more memorable after it was revealed after the victory that the 23-year-old Real Madrid left-back’s father had died just before the game.

In addition to her contribution to her nation’s World Cup victory, where she was awarded the tournament’s Golden Ball, Bonamati also had a successful season with her club Barcelona.

The 25-year-old midfielder helped her side not only be again crowned the Liga F champions, their fourth consecutive title but also win the Women’s Champions League after beating Wolfsburg 3-2 in the final in the Netherlands. The Champions League victory was Barcelona’s second in three years.

Like Bonmati and Carmona, Kerr also had an impressive year for club and country. The 29-year-old forward netted 29 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions on the way to another Women’s Super League (WSL) and FA Cup double for Chelsea.
