Bianca Andreescu won the battle of two former US Open winners against Emma Raducanu on Tuesday at the Miami Open. The Canadian needed two hours and 33 minutes to come through 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 against the Briton in their first-round meeting.
Andreescu won 67% of her first-serve points to Raducanu’s 59%. But the latter won a relatively higher-margin of second-serve points – 69% to Andreescu’s 64%. Andreescu, who won Flushing Meadows in 2019, won 96 points for the match.
Of these, she had 32 winners. Raducanu, the 2021 US Open titlist finished with 86 points that included 20 winners. Raducanu’s 40 unforced errors, however, let her down with Andreescu hitting six fewer errors. After the match, Andreescu said, “You never know what to expect.
I just came in here wanting to play my best with what I had today, and I think I did that. Emma played amazing. She’s an incredible player and I have a lot of respect for her. I didn’t let my negative emotions get the best of me.
I stayed positive, I was very energetic and I never gave up”. In the second round, Andreescu will play Maria Sakkari, who’s seeded seventh in the draw.
