Bianca Andreescu praised “incredible” Emma Raducanu following their Miami Open clash and the Canadian also said she didn’t let her “negative emotions” get the best of her. In a battle between two US Open champions, Andreescu was the better as the Canadian beat Raducanu 6-3 3-6 6-2 to progress into the Miami second round.
“You never know what to expect — I just came in here wanting to play my best with what I had today, and I think I did that. Emma played amazing — she’s an incredible player and I have a lot of respect for her. I didn’t let my negative emotions get the best of me.
I stayed positive, I was very energetic and I never gave up,” Andreescu said, per the WTA website.
How Andreescu defeated Raducanu?
Andreescu got off to the best possible start to the match, breaking Raducanu early for a 3-0 lead.
Up by an early break, Andreescu had a chance to go up by a double break in the sixth game but she missed on a break point chance. In the eighth game – when Raducanu was serving to stay in the first set – Andreescu didn’t convert her first set point.
