Bianca Andreescu took a moment to show appreciation for Serena Williams and Billie Jean King when congratulating National Girls and Women in Sports Day, which was celebrated on February 7th.
King, a former 12-time Grand Slam champion, founded the WTA Tour in 1973. On the other side, former 23-time Grand Slam champion Williams is one of the most impactful players in women’s tennis history.
On a special day for women’s sports, 23-year-old Andreescu praised King and Williams for paving the way for her to be where she is today. In her message, Andreescu also gave recognition to Coco Gauff and freestyle skier Eileen Gu.
“Happy National Girls and Women in Sports Day,” Andreescu wrote in an Instagram Story. “I’m so grateful for the girls and women in sports who have helped shape my career, like Billie Jean King and Serena Williams. Without them, I would not be here today.
“And for the next generation of amazing women in sports who are raising the bar like Eileen Gu and Coco Gauff, it is so amazing to see.”
