Bianca Andreescu has withdrawn from a WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati and added she is hoping to be healthy enough to play at the US Open. This past week in Montreal, Andreescu suffered a disappointing first-round loss in front of her home fans as Camila Giorgi defeated the Canadian 6-3 6-2.
After the match, Andreescu revealed she was hampered by a back issue and that negatively impacted her performance. Now, 2019 US Open champion Andreescu is missing Cincinnati and her participation at Flushing Meadows also appears to be in jeopardy.“Hi everyone.
During my match in Washington I started experiencing pain in my back that kept getting worse and I did everything I could the other night in Montreal to play at my highest level. All of this led me to undergo medical examinations and sadly the results have revealed a small stress fracture in my back.
This unfortunately means that I won’t be able to compete in Cincinnati. My main focus will be on giving my back the rest it needs. I’ll be taking things day by day and aiming to return to the court as soon as I can and stay optimistic for US Open.
Your support means the world to me!” Andreescu said in a message posted on her social media.
