After a busy track and field season, the 50th edition of the 2024 Berlin Marathon will take place on Sunday.
The men’s race will be without some notable names, including Eliud Kipchoge and Kenenisa Bekele, who have combined to win the race in three of the past five years. Kipchoge holds the record for the fastest marathon time of 2:01:09 in 2022.
Even with their absence, the lineup includes a stacked field. On the men’s side, Ethiopia’s Tadese Takele, who finished third in last year’s race, is a strong contender.
On the women’s side, Ethiopia’s Tigist Ketema is a favorite after winning the 2024 Dubai Marathon back in January. Rio 2016 silver-medalist Genzebe Dibaba from Ethiopia will also compete.
Just a few months after an exciting Olympics marathon, runners will battle it out over 26.2 miles and through the historic streets of Berlin to capture glory.
Here’s everything you need to know about this year’s race in Berlin.
