Belinda Bencic has decided to miss the Mutua Madrid Open and the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in order to fully heal her hip injury and be 100% prepared for Roland Garros, which starts on May 28.
The world No.11 shared the news through an Instagram story post on Wednesday, revealing that hip discomfort has troubled her since the U.S. swing and that she needs to take some time off to recuperate fully.
“I will miss both tournaments dearly but will be back in a few weeks and can’t wait to be back competing soon and continuing in great form,” the Swiss tennis player wrote.
Bencic has been enjoying a superb run this year, winning two titles, the Adelaide International 2 and the Mubadala Abu Dhabi Open, and reaching the final of this month’s Credit One Charleston Open, the last tournament she played. She is currently tied with Aryna Sabalenka for the most number of WTA titles this year and ranks fourth on the list of players with most wins this year, behind Jessica Pegula, Elena Rybakina, and Sabalenka.
