Bencic exits Washington after losing to Gauff
After making it past her first two matches in Washington, Bencic’s run at the tournament came to an end in the quarterfinal.
Gauff earned the first break of the match in the second game to open a 2-0 lead. In the third game, Bencic got the break back. Blowing an early break didn’t impact Gauff, who claimed back-to-back breaks in the fourth and sixth games to win four games in a row and clinch the first set.
