Belinda Bencic insists there were no regrets on her side for the way she decided to play her two match points against Iga Swiatek at Wimbledon. Bencic, ranked at No 14 in the world, suffered a devastating Wimbledon round-of-16 exit after Swiatek saved two match points to win 6-7 (4) 7-6 (2) 6-3.
In the 12th game of the second set – when Swiatek was serving to stay in the match – Bencic had two consecutive match points. Bencic made both returns – elected not to be too aggressive – Swiatek went for it and hit two winners to save consecutive match points.
After the match, Bencic was asked if she regretted not going for it aggressively on those match points. “No, I don’t think so. I made two good returns, and of course I tried to make her play. She came up with a great shot. That’s well done from her.
I would do the same thing again,” Bencic said.
