Bay FC, the NWSL’s newest expansion team, will play at PayPal Park in San Jose, Calif., when it joins the league in 2024, the club announced Friday. Here’s what you need to know:
- The team said it will invest more than $3 million in a “world-class, 3,600-square-foot standalone facility adjacent to the stadium” that will include the team’s locker room, office areas, lounges, training rooms, hydrotherapy facilities and more. It will also be Bay FC’s “central home for game-day operations.”
- Bay FC’s investor group has also “committed to significant infrastructure investments to support the club’s growth and operations,” including building a training venue at a yet-to-be-announced location. The team said it plans to hold exhibition matches and some full-team workouts “around the Bay Area and Northern California.”
- PayPal Park, home of MLS’ San Jose Earthquakes, opened in 2015 and seats 18,000. The U.S. women’s national team played its World Cup send-off match against Wales in front of a sellout crowd at the stadium on July 9.
