Bay FC names Matt Potter as sporting director, removing interim tag – Equalizer Soccer

Matt Potter is now the full-time sporting director for Bay FC, the club announced on Wednesday. The announcement removes an interim tag from his role and updates his job description.

Potter was hired in December of 2023 as the Bay FC’s technical director and was then named head of football and interim sporting director in June, when Lucy Rushton — the team’s first general manager — resigned.

“We are excited to officially name Matt Potter our sporting director,” Bay FC co-chair Alan Waxman said in a statement. “He deeply understands the women’s game and what it takes to build a winning franchise, playing a key role in making our inaugural season a success.”

Bay FC made the NWSL playoffs as an expansion team in 2024 thanks to a surge in form at the back end of the season. The team’s roster makeover was led by the arrival of 2019 World Cup winner and United States international centerback Abby Dahlkemper.
