Barcelona Women have confirmed that sporting director Markel Zubizarreta is leaving the club.
His contract with the club was set to expire in the summer of 2024.
In a statement, Barcelona confirmed Zubizaretta’s departure and thanked the Spaniard for his services during his eight years with the side.
The statement read: “Barca and Markel Zubizarreta have agreed to part ways. Zubizarreta played a key role in creating the best women’s football team in Europe and the club would like to express their gratitude for his efforts and dedication, wishing him all the very best in his personal and professional life.
“The club will provide an update on the team’s new sporting structure in due course.”
Zubizarreta first joined the side in 2015, becoming the team’s sporting manager before becoming sporting director in the summer of 2017.
Since his change of role, the team has gone on to excel, winning four league titles and two Champions Leagues among numerous other trophies.
Barcelona are next in action on October 1 against Sporting de Huelva.
