Barcelona win Women’s Champions League after Wolfsburg comeback

Barcelona have won the Women’s Champions League after a memorable 3-2 comeback victory against VFL Wolfsburg in the final at the Philips Stadion in the Netherlands.

The Spanish side had it all to do after a dire first half which saw them enter half-time 2-0 down.

They conceded just three minutes into the match after Wolfsburg striker Ewa Pajor dispossessed Lucy Bronze and curled an effort into the far corner.

The German side doubled their lead in the 37th minute through a header from close range from Germany international Alexandra Popp, who was competing in her fourth Champions League final.

But Patricia Guijarro sparked a stunning rally with two goals in three minutes (48, 50) at the start of the second half.

Barcelona completed their comeback in the 70th minute, capitalising on defensive uncertainty.

After some pinball in the penalty area, the ball eventually fell to former Wolfsburg forward Fridolina Rolfo who fired the ball in the far corner.

It is Barcelona’s second Women’s Champions League title — and a second in three years after their triumph in 2021.

Rolfo, who joined Barcelona from Wolfsburg in the summer of 2021 said after the game: “They scored two goals from their two chances but we had to continue believing in what we were doing and we did it.”
