Barcelona Femeni lose first game since June 2021 with 2-1 defeat by Madrid CFF

Date:

Barcelona Femeni suffered their first league defeat in almost two years following their 2-1 loss against Madrid CFF at Estadio Fernando Torres.

A first-half brace from Zambia international Racheal Kundananji gave the home side the lead going into the half-time break.

Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas pulled a goal back for Jonatan Giraldez’s side, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Barcelona from losing for the first time in 64 league matches.

Barca had already secured the Liga F title in April and looked set to repeat last season’s feat of winning every single match in the competition.

But their 62-game winning streak in the division was brought to an end last weekend with a 1-1 draw at Sevilla.

Sunday’s loss to Madrid CFF is Barcelona’s first defeat since June 2021.

Barcelona end the Liga F season with 85 points and a goal difference of 108, having scored 118 times and conceded on only 10 occasions.

Giraldez’s side will now prepare for their upcoming women’s Champions League final against Wolfsburg, which takes place on Saturday, June 3.
