Barbora Krejcikova fulfilled promise to mother by beating Iga Swiatek in Dubai final

Barbora Krejcikova, 27, revealed three years ago she promised her mother that one day she would bring a Dubai singles trophy to their home. In 2020, Krejcikova played in Dubai for the first time, when she was beaten in the qualifying first round.

The following year, Krejcikova made her Dubai main draw debut and made the final before losing to Garbine Muguruza. This past February, Krejcikova fulfilled the promise to her mother as she defeated Iga Swiatek in the Dubai final.

“In 2020 – before tournament I told my mom that one day I will get a trophy from Dubai. Same week we were doubles finalists and I brought back my first Dubai trophy. In 2021 – As last direct acceptance in MD, unexpectedly I reached my first WTA 1000 singles final in Dubai.

I remember Garbine lifting up the trophy, and dreaming one day I will be standing there with winners trophy. In 2023 – I’m lifting up the winners trophy. Never give up on your dreams. No matter how impossible they appear. Everything is possible,” Krejcikova wrote on her social media.
