Barbora Krejcikova has just become a Wimbledon champion and lifted her second Grand Slam title after beating 2024 sensation Jasmine Paolini in three sets.
Krejcikova, the 2021 French Open champion and No. 31 seed, prevented 28-year-old Paolini from becoming a Grand Slam champion after earning a 6-2 2-6 6-4 win in a Wimbledon final that lasted an hour and 56 minutes of play.
Early in the match, Krejcikova was the one controlling everything but the rhythm and momentum of the match completely changed in the second set when the Czech started making more errors while No. 7 seed Paolini raised her level.
But in the third set, Krejcikova managed to bounce back and end on the winning side after coming up big late in the final – the 31st-seeded Czech earned the first break of the decider in the seventh game before saving two break points when serving for the match in the 10th game.
For Paolini, this was her second Grand Slam final and a second consecutive Slam final loss. Just a month ago, the 28-year-old Italian was beaten by Iga Swiatek in the French Open final.
