The 2021 French Open champion Krejcikova is currently in Antalya, playing the Billie Jean King Cup Qualifier against Ukraine, which is not being in the position to host the tie due to the ongoing war.

“Both Ukraine and Turkey are going through very difficult times,” Krejcikova wrote on social media. “Much like I am supporting the people of Ukraine, I would like to lend a hand to Turks as well.”

Krejcikova has decided to donate all the funds that she is due to receive from the ITF to represent her country during this tie: “The money will directly help the Turkish population from regions that have been affected by the earthquake, especially local tennis players that have lost close to everything.”

After the first day of Billie Jean King Cup Qualifier action, the Czech Republic leads Ukraine 2-0, as Marketa Vondrousova beat Marta Kostyuk 6-2 6-1 and Barbora Krejcikova followed with a 6-4 6-3 win over Katarina Zavatska. (photo: Jimmie48)
