Jessica Pegula has suffered an unfortunate setback ahead of the Australian Open as the American has been forced to withdraw from her Adelaide International semifinal match due to a Gastrointestinal Illness (GI), the tournament announced.
Pegula, seeded at No. 2, was scheduled to take on world No. 15 Daria Kasatkina in the Adelaide semifinal on Friday. Unfortunately, that match didn’t happen due to the American experiencing a GI illness.
GI illnesses are any ailments linked to the digestive system, including the throat, stomach, and intestines. Also, diagnoses may include acute, short-term illnesses, which some refer to as stomach bugs.
Following Pegula’s Adelaide withdrawal, Kasatkina got a free pass into the Adelaide final. After the Pegula news, Kasatkina took to X to wish her colleague a quick recovery ahead of the Australian Open.
Wishing Jess a speedy recovery and be 100% ready for AO🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 https://t.co/XVmH48fC86
