Azzi Fudd misses another game for UConn with knee injury – JWS

Azzi Fudd missed yet another game for No. 5 UConn women’s basketball.

The Huskies (16-2) dominated Seton Hall in a 103-58 road win, but Fudd did not travel with the team. Instead, the standout sophomore remained in Connecticut to undergo testing on her right knee, which she reinjured Sunday against Georgetown.

“We’ll know a lot more when we get back,” coach Geno Auriemma said. “And we’ll have to go from there, whatever that is.”

Fudd injured the knee on Dec. 4 against Notre Dame, then missed UConn’s next eight games before returning on Jan. 11. On Sunday, in just her second game back, she exited with an injury to the same knee.

Following that game, Auriemma said the injury “didn’t sound serious at all.”

Without Fudd, the team had just seven available players Tuesday. Both Caroline Ducharme and Ayanna Patterson remain in concussion protocol.

“There’s so much going on, and we really don’t have any control over any of it,” Auriemma said after the win. “We do everything we can to try to put ourselves in the best situation and let the game take us where it takes us. Injuries are a part of the game, and some years, it’s worse than others.
