The powers that be at Kering appointed the Dublin-born designer creative director of the label in October 2023, and presented his highly-anticipated womenswear debut during the Fall 2024 season of Paris Fashion Week. Earlier this month, the accompanying campaign for McGirr’s inaugural collection dropped, with photographer Glen Luchford taking to a handful of locations across East London. The year 2024 is proving to be somewhat memorable for fashion. At least in terms of designers and they fashion houses they serve. Over recent months, we’ve bared witness to Virginie Viard‘s abrupt Chanel exit and Peter Hawkings’ shock departure from Tom Ford (after less than twelve months). Not to mention Pierpaolo Piccioli leaving Valentino and Alessandro Michele replacing him. Thrown into the rumor mill, along with the Hedi Slimane exiting Celine, is John Galliano’s future at Maison Margiela.

Less than twelve months since his debut collection during the Spring 2024 season of Milan Fashion Week (and some 25 years of working alongside the founder), the British designer is to depart as creative director of the brand. Marc Jacobs unveiled his Fall 2024 collection last night in New York, within the city’s historic Public Library. The celebrated American designer doubled down on the doll-like silhouettes he presented for the Spring 2024 season, but this time with a nod to his childhood inspirations (including everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Minnie Mouse). That’s a wrap on the Fall 2024 season of Haute Couture Paris Fashion Week and what a wild ride the past few days have been, with Vogue World: Paris unofficially kick-starting the couture festiveness as the sun set over Place Vendôme on Sunday evening.

The Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode leaned on Daniel Roseberry at Schiaparelli to get this season’s couture celebrations off to a fine start – and it worked. Ditching the light-filled atrium of the Petit Palais for a windowless, dark space underneath the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild, guests were treated to a salon-style presentation.
