Playing her first match at the Australian Open in four years, Caroline Wozniacki advanced into the second round when Magda Linette retired at the start of the second set due to a left leg injury that started hampering her movement midway through the opening set.
The world No.24 Linette managed to level back from 0-2 to 2-2 in the beginning of the match, but that was the last resistance we saw from her. The Pole received a medical timeout at 5-2 in the first set and three lost games later she called it quits.
Linette’s ranking will plummet now, as she reached her first Grand Slam semifinal at the Australian Open last year. She is expected to drop out of the Top 50 following the tournament.

After giving birth to two children, the 2018 Australian Open champion Wozniacki resumed her tennis career last summer during the North American hardcourt swing, where she managed to reach the fourth round of the US Open. The Dane is accompanied by her family in Australia.
In the second round, Wozniacki’s opponent will be Maria Timofeeva.
