The Australian Open will become a 15-day event next year, staged between January 14-28, 2024. The organizers have added an extra day to the schedule, allowing more sessions on the three main courts and hoping to reduce chances for late-night finishes.
However, that issue will likely remain, as the organizers have not revealed anything about rescheduling the problematic night session. With a 7:00 p.m. start, we can still get crazy late enclosures like the one we saw this year when Andy Murray and Thanasi Kokkinakis battled until over 4:00 a.m.!
Also, everything will remain the same from round two, which reduces the effect of a 15-day event without more efficient scheduling. For example, Murray and Kokkinakis entered Margaret Court Arena after the WTA match that lasted under two hours.
Two rivals pushed each other to the limits, with Andy prevailing 4-6, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 7-5 in five hours and 45 minutes!
