Matildas coach Tony Gustavsson has named a strong 29 player provisional squad for the Women’s World Cup, including several players who have not featured for the Matildas this calendar year.
Gustavsson has chosen a blend of youth and experience in his initial selections, with veterans plagued by injuries this past season given the chance to prove they have enough minutes in the legs to contribute in the tournament that starts in July.

Kyah Simon is one such player, with the former Tottenham forward tearing her ACL in October and playing very limited minutes for her club; she missed the last World Cup, but scored the winning goal against Brazil in the famous 2015 Round of 16 win.
Experienced defender Alanna Kennedy has also been selected despite also struggling with injuries, with the centre back only playing eight games for Manchester City and not playing for the Matildas so far this calendar year.
Youngsters Amy Sayer, Remy Siemsen and Jada Whyman have also been selected and will hope to be bolters in the squad,…
