Aryna Sabalenka rips WTA Finals organization in Cancun

World No 1 Aryna Sabalenka called out the WTA Finals organization and urged the WTA to do better after being able to practice on the court only one day before the start of the season-ending tournament. Sabalenka and other WTA Finals participants arrived in Cancun earlier in the week but they were unable to practice on the court because the stadium still wasn’t finished.

For this year’s WTA Finals in Cancun, a temporary stadium was built and it has 4,300 seats. In her pre-tournament press conference, Sabalenka acknowledged she would have preferred to have had a few practices on the court during the week.

Sabalenka: Not the level for the WTA Finals

“Well, I’m not happy that we couldn’t practice on the match court, meaning like on the stadium. I think this is not the level for the WTA Finals. We literally have one hour today, like 45 minutes, to try the stadium.

This is something what I’m not happy with. I’m pretty sure the rest of the players also not happy. At the same time, yes, I know we’re all in the same conditions. But this is not conditions for the WTA Finals. So, yeah, it’s not great.
