Aryna Sabalenka revealed she used to feel “really depressed” after tough losses but now she is responding in a much healthier way to a defeat. In her first clay tournament of the year, Sabalenka made the Stuttgart final before Iga Swiatek handed her a 6-3 6-4 loss.
For the second year in a row, Sabalenka was beaten by Swiatek in the Stuttgart final. “I think I’m getting better with accepting that I have lost this. It’s happen, it’s in the past, I will learn this lesson and move on.
Before I used to be really depressed after tough matches, but right now I think I’m a little bit older, so I understand that it’s okay, it happens. I just have to accept it and I just have to learn and improve what didn’t work well today and try better next time,” Sabalenka said, per Tennis Up To Date.
Sabalenka set to compete in Madrid
This week, Sabalenka is kicking off her Madrid campaign and hoping to put the Stuttgart final loss behind her. Although clay is not Sabalenka’s favorite surface, the Belarusian is now more positive about playing on the dirt.
