Aryna Sabalenka has highlighted that she is “still motivated” to do great things as she admits that she is feeling “a great responsibility” being the new top-ranked player in women’s tennis. Sabalenka, 25, officially replaced Iga Swiatek at the world No 1 spot after the US Open and became the top-ranked player for the first time in her career.
Sabalenka, who also became a Grand Slam champion at this year’s Australian Open, accomplished her two biggest tennis goals this year. “I am still motivated to continue doing important things, no matter how hard it was for me to reach the top, I’m not going to relax or lose my desire.
I want to finish this season as the best player in the world and stay in that position as long as possible. Every time I achieve a goal, I set new ones and this one is very exciting, so I want to give my best tennis here in Beijing.
This situation is new for me, it still seems crazy to be there. I know that, right now, I represent all of women’s tennis and that generates a great responsibility, but nothing in me has changed,” Sabalenka said, via The Tennis Letter.
