Aryna Sabalenka continued her criticism of the court conditions at the WTA Finals as she compared the court in Cancun to “a leather.” On Tuesday, world No 1 Sabalenka played her second match at the WTA Finals. After beating Maria Sakkari in her opening match, Sabalenka surprisingly lost to Jessica Pegula in her following match as the American upset the Belarusian 6-4 6-3.
Sabalenka complained about the court conditions after her win over Sakkari and that happened against after the Pegula loss. “Well, I think this court fits perfectly for her. The bounce is super low. I think she feels much more comfortable in these conditions.
On this court, it’s like leather. You never know what’s gonna happen. If all those bounces will help you or play against you. I guess today was the day where it didn’t work well for me. But it’s okay. I still have a chance to pass the group.
I’m trying to stay strong and motivated (smiling),” Sabalenka said, via The Tennis Letter.
