Aryna Sabalenka, 25, admits becoming the world No 1 after the US Open would “mean a lot” to her but also added overtaking Iga Swiatek is not her primary focus in these two weeks. Sabalenka, who has been ranked at No 2 since winning the Australian Open, again has a shot at surpassing Swiatek at the world No 1 spot.
The gap isn’t big between the two and Swiatek is the defending champion at this year’s US Open. With that being said, Sabalenka just needs to do one round better than Swiatek and she will become the world No 1 for the first time in her career after the US Open. “It’s just a chance first of all and I’m not really focusing on that.
