Arsenal’s Frida Maanum on track for return after on-pitch collapse: ‘It looks promising’

Frida Maanum is on track to return for Arsenal following her collapse during the Continental Cup final last month.

The Norway international, 24, had a heart monitoring device fitted after going down off the ball during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Chelsea at Molineux.

She was subsequently withdrawn from international duty as she continued to undergo tests and monitoring by the club’s medical staff.

Head coach Jonas Eidevall has ruled her out of the upcoming Women’s Super League fixture against Bristol City on Sunday, but if all goes as planned the following week’s game, at home to Leicester City, is a possible target.

Asked for an update on her recovery on Friday, Eidevall said: “Yeah, everything is looking good and that’s the most important thing. She’s on a graduated, monitored protocol now to return to play.

“She will not be available for selection on Sunday but after that, if everything goes as planned, it looks promising for her to be available to play again.”

The midfielder has made 28 appearances in all competitions for the club this season.

Eidevall has praised the work of the club behind the scenes to ensure she can safely return to playing again.
